ANOTHER SPANISH NAVY INCURSION GBC
There was another unlawful incursion into British Gibraltar Territorial Waters by Spanish naval vessel SPS Vigia on Thursday 14th August 2014.
The Royal Navy challenged the vessel which alleged, incorrectly, that it was in Spanish waters. The Spanish vessel subsequently departed local waters.
A convent spokesperson confirmed the actions of the Spanish Navy constitute a breach of UN Convention on the Law of the Sea and the Foreign and Commonwealth Office will issue a protest to the Spanish Government.
A spokesperson said: "Incursions are a violation of sovereignty, not a threat to it. They do not weaken or undermine the legal basis in international law for British sovereignty over Gibraltar, including British Gibraltar territorial waters."
